Temporary Work Permit

A temporary work permit is an official authorization that allows foreign nationals to work in a country for a limited period of time. These permits are often issued for specific job roles, employers, or sectors and come with certain conditions and limitations. They are designed to address labor shortages, fill specialized positions, or meet short-term workforce needs. A temporary work permit authorizes an employer to hire a worker for a specified period to complete a particular job. This type of permit is typically issued when there is a need for specialized skills or labor that cannot be met by the local workforce.

Temporary Work Permit Renewal

Renewal of a temporary work permit is not applicable. According to MOL regulations, once the temporary work permit expires, a new work permit application must be submitted.

Reasons for Non-Renewal of Temporary Work Permit in the UAE

01

Permit Type
Certain types of temporary work permits are inherently non-renewable. For example, permits issued for short-term projects or specific events might have a fixed end date and cannot be extended.

02

Job Role and Contract Changes
If the job role or employment contract has changed significantly from what was originally approved, the work permit might not be eligible for renewal. The new role or contract terms may need to be reassessed for compliance with UAE labor laws.

03

Employer Status
If the employer is no longer in good standing with MOHRE or GDRFA (e.g., due to unpaid fines, non-compliance with labor laws, or bankruptcy), the renewal might be denied.
The company’s trade license may also need to be valid and in good standing.

04

Quota Limits
The UAE has quotas for different categories of workers. If the quota for your category has been reached, renewal might not be possible until the quota is reset.

05

Compliance Issues
Non-compliance with UAE labor laws or immigration regulations by the employee or employer can result in the non-renewal of the work permit. This includes issues such as unpaid fines, violations of residency regulations, or failure to meet the terms of the employment contract.

06

Economic and Policy Changes
Changes in UAE labor policies or economic conditions might impact the renewal of temporary work permits. For example, priority might be given to hiring UAE nationals or permanent residents in certain sectors.

07

Expiration of Required Documents
oIf the worker's passport or medical insurance has expired or will expire soon, this can affect the renewal process. All required documents must be valid for the duration of the renewed permit.

04

Medical Fitness
Failure to pass the required medical fitness test can result in the denial of a work permit renewal.
