Cancelling a business license in mainland Dubai involves several steps to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. This process is necessary for businesses that wish to cease operations, change their business structure, or relocate outside of the UAE. The first step is to settle any outstanding debts or financial obligations, including paying off any taxes and obtaining clearance from relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).
Next, the company must cancel any existing work visas and permits for employees. This is followed by settling any liabilities with creditors and ensuring that all financial obligations are fulfilled. The business must also close any existing bank accounts and notify any stakeholders of the impending closure. Once these steps are completed, the business can apply for license cancellation with the Department of Economic Development (DED). This involves submitting the required documentation, such as the board resolution for cancellation and the original trade license. After approval, the business will receive a cancellation certificate, confirming that the license has been officially cancelled and allowing the business to conclude its operations legally.
